FC Barcelona are in discussion with a few great footballers who will be free agents at the end of this season. Noussair Mazraoui, the Ajax full-back looks set to be in demand this summer, but Barcelona reportedly is in pole position to land the 24-year-old.
However, Barca aren’t the only club interested. Borussia Dortmund are also keen, while AC Milan made a new offer last week.
The report also thinks that some Premier League clubs have shown an interest, although it seems Mazraoui isn’t keen on heading to England.
Mazraoui will be available on a free transfer and already made it pretty clear in January he’s not expecting to stay at Ajax past the end of the season.
He said, “My future? That’s a good question man. I think the chances of me remaining at Ajax are very small, maybe 5%. I am open for something new – it’s a good moment to leave.”
With the right-back’s contract with the Dutch club set to expire on June 30, there have been reports of a meeting between Mazraoui’s agent, Mino Raiola, and Barcelona’s President, Joan Laporta, to discuss a potential transfer of the Moroccan to the Catalan club.
Mazraoui’s potential transfer to Barcelona is closely linked to 21-year-old Erling Braut Haaland’s expected move to the Spanish club, according to various reports.
Mazraoui has again been in impressive form at club level during the 2021-22 campaign, making 28 appearances in all competitions, contributing five goals and four assists in the process. Meanwhile, the Morocco international has scored ten goals and registered nine assists in 130 outings for Ajax since debuting for the Dutch giants in 2018.
Both Mazraoui and the Erling Haaland have the same agent, Mino Raiola. According to reports, Laporta is willing to go to any length to sign Erling Braut Haaland and is ready to sign Mazraoui next summer as an incentive for securing important deals with Mino Raiola.
Barcelona will have three right-backs for next season if the Moroccon’s deal goes through and if Dani Alves signs a new deal at the end of this season. Barcelona brought in Dani Alves at right-back in January, but the Brazilian’s contract only runs until the end of the season, and it’s not clear if the 38-year-old will stay on.
Xavi also has Sergino Dest available to play at right-back. The defender was linked with a move away in the winter but stayed and has drawn praise from Xavi in recent games.
